Well I am going to start 2010 off a little different. I am going to post for the entire month instead of the different programs. Christmas is over and I hope all my "Throw Away Kids" had a little bit of Christmas thanks to us. We started January off at Cypress Creek with Chosen and OMOTAYO. It was a cold day and we sat the kids in the sun since we were outside. The kids were very surprised to hear from Chosen about her life from JAIL 2 JESUS. The kids loved them both. We also had snacks. A GREAT BIG SHOUT OUT to JERRY AND JEAN that have joined The Throw Away Kids Network. They run a BIBLE study on a week  night and the kids love it. Jerry and Jean love these kids and I really appreciate their hearts of love for these kids.

The next program was at Hastings 1/23 where we presented the prizes for the Poster contest. The kids had excitement all over their faces. They won all three prizes. A Wii game, board games and special prizes were given to all that submitted a poster. There were Grab Bags for all youth. G86 and crew came from Tampa and what a message they delivered. G86 is an ex-gang member and he spoke from experience. They gave an awesome outreach and brought it home. A special SHOUT OUT to Mr. Banks as usual because he is the best providing positive outreaches for these kids. OF course Mr. Knighton runs an excellent program and deserves all my Thanks.

Last was an outreach on 1/30 at OKeechobee Youth with my friend Mr. Cal Pate. It was a nice warm day and the youth were in for a treat. I had Terrance Cole that is a ex-con that speaks to kids all over Florida. He is the CEO/Founder of I CAN CHANGE ME. His web site is http://www.icanchangeme.com. The kids listened quietly to every word Terrance had to say to them about the 8+ years he served in jail. He was hardcore and to the point. He got up in their faces and it was all good. He has a ministry team that goes with him. I value his friendship and his vision for these kids. A special shout out to my driver the Hawaiian guy for being so patience with us. Looking forward to a great year to deliver HOPE 4 THE HOOD>>>

Well this month was cold and a short month. It stated off with my friend Deshun that is a Christian Singer at Cypress Creek. It was a cold and windy day. I have known him a while and have come to really love this young man and his ministry. At Cypress Creek the kids were excited to hear Deshun because he had been there several times before. They were also in for a treat because he brought a youth pastor (who by the way is the relative of Billy Dee Williams). These kids did not know who that was except when you mentioned the early STAR WARS movie. He explained the LOVE of Christ and Hope 4 The Hood. They also got drinks and Oreo cookies thanks to my partners Jerry and Jean. All in all it was a good outreach. The staff as always are great with these youth.
On the 20th of February I was with my friends at Hastings. Mr Banks as always is the best and that outreach was inside so I did not have to "fight the weather". Terrance that is with the program, I can change me, had to cancel so my young friend and rapper Cellus stepped up and came at the very last minute. His heart is pure and he has such a love for these kids because he is 19 himself and can relate to them. They ask him questions and he prayed with a few. I love him for coming on such short notice. We had the problem with sound because I could not find anyone at the last minute and the program could not provide it.
OYDC canceled because of a meeting and OJCC had to be canceled because of rain. OJCC is set for today which is 3/5/10.
I saved the best for last. I met with Bristol Youth and the first outreach will be held on 4/10/10. I also met with Palmetto Youth yesterday and they are excited about the program. To GOD BE THE GLORY. As the kids say...TRUE DAT!

This month was filled with excitement from The Throw Away Kids and the "kids". March was the month that we would do 2 jails at the same time and to see if I could pull it off... I Met with Palmetto Youth Academy on the 5th and what a beautiful "road trip" that was. Palmetto is housed on a compound and I met some of the nicest staff, which I should have taken note of their names, but I was so excited to meet them I forgot. I will make mention of them in an up coming blog since my first outreach will be 4/17/10. March 6 was in Okeechobee Juvenile Correctional Center with CFL and Life Support. As always the staff is the best. Mr Newsome is now in District Management and I am proud of his advancement with G4S. He really has a heart for these youth.

CFL carried the outreach up in the kids face with his story of being in a gang and a crack smoker and how his 15 year old brother died in his arms. God turned his life around and now he is giving back to help turn around a life one at a time. Life Support is always willing to go that extra mile for these kids. That outreach went well and the youth took materials and books and had cookies and talk with the rappers.

Next BIG DATE for The Throw Away Kids was the 27th when 2 sets would be done at once. The first set was at Okeechobee Youth Development Center with Mr. Cal Pate. He is also at the top of G4S employees and had everything ready for our arrival. The Good Boys out of West Palm Beach are the greatest Rappers and came full of excitement to minister to these youth. They have such a heart for GOD and they are young and that is apparent in their outreaches. They are filled with excitement and had the kids clapping and dancing. They spoke in Creole and was able to relate to the kids. You could feel the joy in the room. Andre the speaker had been in prison for 17 years and spoke a powerful message to the kids of drugs and crimes. He told of his life behind bars and the hopelessness of it. Our Prayer is that maybe one youth heard and will take it to heart.

The other set was at Okeechobee Juvenile Correctional Center. The youth there were in for a treat because we had an actor called Prodigal Son out of Ft Lauderdale that is also a rapper. He has out a movie called Hidden Rage that is being showed in DJJ jails across the state. He gave the youth his story of gang life and jail life and 51 switches on his arm were the devil tried to take his life. He told the youth that he came form the streets and now he owns his own record company and is an actor. It was powerful. He is such a man of God. Cell and King David came from Tampa to provide the sound and speak to the youth. They drove 3 hours to get there so I know they have a heart for these kids. I wish to personally Thank G4S for letting the Throw Away Kids come and minister to their youth. Our Prayer is that one kid will make a change in their life and go on to a productive citizen and give back to society. Maybe one day they will contact The throw away Kids and want to come back to minister at the program they left.

PostHeaderIcon April Outreaches

April was a busy month for the Throw Away Kids. We added two new jails, Bristol Youth Academy and Palmetto Youth Academy. Both are a welcome part of our outreaches. We started out at Bristol on 4/10/10 with LP, Mello D, Kid G, Young Tre, and Sicily from Water to Wine Inc. Mrs Jeanette Jackson the FA  and her helpful staff was there to greet us and help with the set-up. The kids were  great and very responsive to the message that came forth. I wish to personally Thank All that helped plan this outreach for the youth.

The following day the "crew" of Water to Wine went to Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ. The members of this church hold a very special place for me. They have answered the call to bring "HOPE 4 THE HOOD". They welcomed us to their church as their family. A special Thank You and God's Blessings to Bishop Harry Banks and First Lady for the kindness shown to us.
Next up was Palmetto Youth Academy with Mrs. Norma Wynn and staff. First this program is set on a beautiful ride down on the 274 and the Sky Way Bridge. I think if I drove that to go to work I would be content. Cell and King David gave a powerful testimony of EX-thug life. We had 17 kids and 5 said the sinners prayer, which is awesome because it does not matter how many kids come, but the seed that was planted. I want to say a special "SHOUT OUT" to Mrs Bertha Green for the extra measure of cake, chips and juice for us all.
Hasting gave a banquet for all the volunteers on 4/22 and The Throw Away Kids was honored for all the outreaches we have done there. The food was the BOMB and the shirts are yellow and we love them. The Throw Away Kids honored one of their own that was in the house for dinner—OmoTayo— for all he has done to help us out. He took over the outreach at Hastings on 4/24/10 with Cellus and the kids had a great time. Since I (Ms Rita), can't be in all the programs at the same day, I have special ones I can trust and will carry on for me. I thank Omotayo for being that Man of God that he is and picking it up.
On 4/24/10 we were also in Cypress Creek with G86 and OV and it was a treat for the kids to see Gary AKA G86. He just released a new CD a few weeks before and was geared up to stomp and dance to his rap. The kids had fun and was treated to candy, cookies and drinks by my very special partners Jeanne and Jerry. They are the best and do a Bible study twice a week at Cypress Creek. This was April and more exciting things are coming over the summer. Stay tuned and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and by email!

God bless all that are a part of The Throw Away Kids.

PostHeaderIcon May Outreaches

May 1 started off in Okeechobee with 2 jails having outreaches at the same time. Cell and King David rocked the house at OYDC and Minister P and Sav-a-lot was at OJCC. The kids had a great time and the staff at both programs were as always the best. Joe Hasslebach is a new face with OYDC and new to the Throw Away Kids. He gave his all and I am looking forward to working with his program.

At Hastings on 5/15/10 Keith Banks and Mr Knighton are as always the greatest. OmoTayo, JD and Emiheroz with Mike Wilson were the best. They rocked the house and the kids were clapping and having a great time. They rocked the house. JD—the 19 year—old was able to connect with the kids and that was the great. I am excited that we will be able to bring a positive message to these kids.

Last was the outreach in Harry Banks Park on 5/29. All rappers came—Boy Wonda, JD, Mike Wilson, Cell, King David, LP, Mello, G86, La Familia, Michael Beckford, Shawn Allen, OmoTayo, Mipeace, Cellus, CFL and all the staff of Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ. The Throw Away Kids have a new member, Danyelle that is an awesome female Christian rapper. She will bring a positive message to female jails. It was Hot. It felt like 100 degrees but the food was good and all who came out made it that much more fun. I love everyone that came. I am looking forward to others. June is already booked and we are on the "roll again"

Stay tuned.
